Here at On Stage Studios, all of classes focus on both classic and current styles of dance, while keeping a firm emphasis on technique. Creative routines are taught and dancers learn how to interpret their movement with control and fluidity. Classes integrate the fundamentals of proper technique, while using exciting music and fresh moves. Private lessons for dance and/or choreography are also available but limited to students whose goals are oriented toward competition, auditions, or performance groups.
R.A.D. (Royal Academy of Dance) syllabus is offered to all ages in various levels and is recognised as the foundation of dance. WE focus on the classical elements of ballet, teaching students proper technique and body alignment. Classes demand high focus from the student and are very valuable to their progression as a dancer.
Modern dance is both expressive and contemporary, ranging in movements that can be lyrical and soft – to abstract and angular.
It can also be described as slow and expressive jazz movements with feel and emphasis on technique adagio/floor/centre.
Our basic Jazz dance class is especially designed for those who want to dance as a recreational sport and have lots of fun. Flexibility, strength and coordination are all benefits you gain from jazz, but most of all – it is simply great fun, dancing to all your favourite songs you hear on the radio today!
This class is for advanced students only. A class dedicated purely on technique. The class is designed to move at a much faster pace working at a high level for more serious students. We aim to challenge our flexibility, spins, leaps, kicks and take it to the next level.
This, the most rhythmic of the dance forms, is an excellent way to increase coordination of the mind and body and to develop a sense of rhythm, timing and expression.
Dancers learn to coordinate rhythm, agility, and musicality to execute clear tap sounds and movement.
Stretch ‘n Strength classes are designed to increase flexibility, muscle control and endurance. Progress at your own pace and all fitness levels welcome. We learn to be more aware of the body’s core and how to activate it – which improves posture, enhance dance technique, improves jumps and landings. Note: these classes do not perform at the end of year concert.
Our Hip Hop dance classes are a stylised combination of street funk, hip hop and pop similar to styles seen in music video clips.
Our dancers are encouraged to push themselves to explore new movements and to understand the different elements of choreography, music, and performance.
On Stage Kids is a class dedicated to producing top of the line performances. These classes are for the more driven students who are interested in developing skills and extend themselves through participation in performances at competitions throughout the year such as eisteddfords.
To be considered for Performance Classes, students must take a Jazz and a Ballet class and be invited to participate by one of the OSS teachers. The teacher will advise both parents and the individual student if we consider they are ready for the challenge of a competition class.
After audition and acceptance in this program, it requires the purchase or hire of a Show Group costume(s) for the routines and performances that will be learnt during this time. Show Group members are also part of the opening performances for the Annual Concert.
The Performance classes are set at the beginning of each term, where we outline the commitment schedule of rehearsals and performances for that term. Classes then commence work on a competitive level of routines which will be performed at competitions and at the end of year concert.
We are proud to have an official On Stage Studios uniform, which our students are required to wear to and from classes within one month of first commencing classes. We also ask our students to wear their On Stage Studio black t-shirt to and from all performances outside the Studio.
For performances (Royal Easter Show, Eisteddfods, Talent Quests, Festivals, etc.) we may need to hire or purchase costumes for your child’s performance. Don’t worry – we organise each student to be fitted through our costumer hirer for our annual concerts. We may also use our own costume maker/designer where costumes are used regularly throughout the year for competitions, eisteddfods, show group etc – whichever is more economical. We will always keep you up to date around performance time!
At On Stage Studios, we offer a free trial week for any new students. No matter if your child wants to enrol as a hobby, fitness, build confidence or challenge to reach their full potential in the performing arts – come give us a try!
